CRUELTY CHARGE
FARMER FINED FOR SHOOTING AT A HORSE "ACTED ON SPUR OF THE MOMENT" Charged with ill-treating a horse by shooting at it ancl wounding it„ Ronald Raymond Tipping, was fined £2 and £1 costs when he appeared before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., yesterday and pleaded guilty. Sergeant Farrell said defendant was a farmer at Waimana, There had been some trouble caused <.by animals trespassing on defendant's property. A neighbour's horse jump ed the fence into defendant's property and he fired a shot-gun at it from a distance, about 30 pellets striking the animal. There was no damage to the horse and the owner was not seeking compensation., Asked if lie had anything to say,-, defendant said that he had used the gun on the spur of the moment when he found that the horse had caused some damage to his potato patch. | "In the circumstances you will be fined. £2 and £1 costs. Usually the fine if! more for cruelty to animals" j said the magistrate. j
