THE NON-STRIPPING EXPERIMENT.
AMERICAN tests on the experimental non-stripping of ma-chine-milked herds appears to have met with certain elements of success and it is therefore welcome news to read of the institution of similar tests on Government experimental farms in New Zealand. The subject is too great, a one to be shouldered by individual farmers unless they can afford to experiment without risk of loss should the effects be detrimental. A lead is what farmers require, based upon sound, knowledge taken over a series of herds, grazed and milked under the varying conditions peculiar to the Dominion's dairying lands. Should the results, be successful then the industry will receive one of the greatest boons in its history, and coming at a time when 'labour' presents a problem beyond solution, will be a double blessing to the sorely tried dairy farmer. Arguments and counter-argu-ments will arise regarding this subject, but the fact remains that the American claim that drawing the last drop from the cow is unnatural, cruel and weakening to the animal appears to have a certain amount of reasonable conjecture on, its side.
