BRIGHT FLORAL■: DISPLAYA very bright and enjoyable after-» . noon was spent iri the Te Teko Hall - I recent^,when tlie,".local branch of I the Women's Division of the Farmer's Union celebrated its sixth annual birthday party and floral display. ' <• The interior of the hall had. been so transformed by the skilful use of greenery and turf that the effect as - one entered the hall was that of a well-kept green house. Beds of beaxitiful flowers ranged the sides s and realistic trellis vines with asparagus - fern made effective barriers at t'he ; entrance. A feature of the decorations was a model -bird-bath,* which stood about three feet high among the ferns and flowers from the lip of which were suspended wisteria vines. A . . Borders of pansies, lilly-of-the-valley, stock, etc. went to create a sylvan atmosphere which was further enhanced by sections of pink and cream roses, gerbera, exias., antirrhinum and flowering shrubs. The whole creation was a credit to those responsible for the display of which Miss S. T'ebbutt was in charge. A bring and biiy stall which did good business was staffed by Mesdames Burr and Goodwin. Mrs Jamieson the Division President, opened the procedings by welcoming all present and expressing goodwill to those members of other organisations who had come along. A period of community singing with-Mrs F. E. Briggs at the piano precluded the concert session, items of which were as under: Tap dance, Misses N. and M. Jensen; solos,, Mrs Briggs; pillow relay, won by Mrs Tickner with Mrs Lees (both of the Otaldri Institute); demonstration oii rug-making from waste materials, <~ Mrs C. Eivers; humorous sketch, /At the Radio Station' Mrs Harty, Mrs G. McDonald, Miss P. Linsell and Miss J. Peppcrall: competition, 'The Seamstress' won by Mrs Briggs; elocution, Miss J. Pepperall. A raffle for a set of coat hangers and shoe trees (donated by Mrs Jamieson) was won by Mrs T. Charlie The lighting of the candles and the usual ceremony associated with, the cutting cf the birthday cake (donated by Mrs Watson) was observed to the letter, the six candles being lit by a member of the Otakiri Institute, blown out by a member of the Edgecumbe Institute, and the cake cut by Mrs Luke of the AAvakeri Division. The cake was duly „ handed round and an enjoyable' afternoon tea-terminated a very happy and successful aftci'noon.
