MAORI FARMERS' WAR EFFORT INCREASING PRODUCTION Excellent lesults have already been obtained under the scheme for the encouragement of Maoris in the Waiariki Native Lands Board's district. to increase production as part of the war effort. Twelve hundred acres additional have been planted in maize on Matakana Islaiid,, 500 acres in maize and barley at T'e Teko, and 800 acres in maize and barloy in various districts towaids the East Cape. In addition, there has been a most encouraging response among the native farmers to the suggestion that they l should rear additional pigs to .bacon weights. It is expected that the whole scheme will result in a substantial increase in the district's quota of primary production.
