THE ROOF'S ON!
NEW METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL VOLUNTARY WORKERS EFFORT It looks as if the Methodists of Whakatane, !n r their initiative and enthusiasm are about to realise very shortly one c-L their clearest wishes for many years past, namely the possession of a debt-free new Sunday School building. Those Avho have watched the new building in King Street, taking gradual shape must have Avondered what Avas about to eventuate. Now hoAvever, AA 7 ith the roof on and most of the Aveather-boar-ding completed tlie-ansAver is obvious. The singularity of the'Avliole construction is that even in these days of unions and specified hours of work, the labour has all been done voluntarily; those employed forgetting the IaAV of overtime and Avorkuig in the Aveek-ends. and evenings with a will. Young and old have rallied and the good housewives. haA T e found time to take along the inevitable cup of tea and sandAV-iches with which to regalo the toilers . The Avhole spirit of the effort is most * commendable, more so front the fact that many of those engaged are members of other denominations avlio are Avilling and keen to. g,iAre. a neighbourly hand. We arc told too' that age is no bar, and that two of the inolt- consistent workers are veterans Avhose coinYjVued ages approximate over 150 years.
