Vice-Admiral John C. Tovey, recently granted the acting-rank of Admiral and apppsfhted to succeed Admiral of the Fleet, Sir Charles Forbes, as Commander-in-Chief of the Home Fleet, is a brother of Dr. A. H. Tovey, of Eleventh Avenue, Tauranga, Sergeant-Major D. S. Wilson, well known Whakatane resident and foot bailer, has been promoted from the rank of Sergeant. *. Inspector D. McLean, officer in. charge of the police district, was a visitor to Whakatane on Saturday.. Miss Gwen Kent, Miss N. Carlyon and Mrs P. Vercoe spent the weekend in Rotorua. Mr T. Harland has returned from Duriedin.
