| METHODISTS' ANNUAL BAZAAR • % WELL-FILLED STALLS The annual bazaar of the Methodist Church was held in the King Street Hall on Wednesday with' a consistently good attendance throughout the day. The various stalls were well up to the high standard of previous years and reflected great credit upon the willing team of ladies. Of particular, interest .was the country stall, an innovation for the bazaar, and brisk business was conducted there. Indications are that the response; was in advance of previous years and the bazaar proved a very com-' mendable effort. His Worship the Mayor, Mr Bj S. Barry, performed the official opening ceremony, complimenting those responsible on the line showing made; Commenting on the advantage of extremely favourable weather, Mr Barry wished the bazaar every success* The Rev, H. Hogg was also on the platform for the official opening. " Those in charge of stalls were: —• Novelty: Mesdames K. Stewart and J. T. White. Plain and Fancy Work: Mesdames S. Print, A. Albiston and N. J. Larsen. Sweets: Mesdames A. J. Canning and R. Pryde. Produce: Mrs A. Haultain and Misses A. and F. Ramson. Country: Mesdames E. Broadniore and R. Schick and Misses G. Schick, C. Broadmore and E. Davidson and Mr E. Malaquin. Cakes: Mesdames T. J. Hellyar, L. Bex*g and J. W. Boon. Aprons: Mesdames W. R. Hanham and. F. Comer. Luncheon and Afternoon Tea: Mesdames F. Darvill, G. Grey and S. Miller, and Misses M. Print and B. Stock. The Concert. A concert programme of varied items was staged during the evening, a good attendance showing their appreciation throughout. The Rev. C. P.Lucas, in the course of his opening remarks, made reference to the very fine response to this annual appeal, thanked the artists who were giving their services so willingly, and also the public for their interest and attendance.
The programme was as follows: — The National Anthem; items by the Poroporo Native School Children under the leadership of Mr and Mrs A. Bos well; Gipsy Dance, Miss Verna Head; Pianoforte solo, Noleen White; Recitation, Mr G. Brown. A play entitled "Tattle," produced by the following members of the Women's Institute: Mesdames Burgess, Norman, Albiston, R. Canning, Darvill, McKenzie and Morgan; Pianoforte solo, Miss G. Kenyon. A play entitled, "The Bloaters," by members, of the Bible Glass and Sunday School: Mrs Albiston, Gwen and Verna Head, Shiriey Bath, Edna Davison, Dawn Armstrong and Bob Loonies and Bill Abbott; A Solo, Mrs Phillips (Taneatua); Violin solo Mr Bert Clark; Tap Dance, Miss S. Bath; Recitation, Mrs E. Armstrong; Tap Dance, Dawn Bath and Noleen White; Mouth-organ solo, Mr C. Kerr; Recitation, Mr G. Brown; Skipping Dance, Miss Isobel Martin. Mrs Horton Stewart and Mrs F. Peebles acted as accompanistes throughout.
