THE PRESENT APPEAL NO SPECIFIC FUNDS In a letter to the honorary secretary of the Whakatane Cbunty and Borough Inter-Zone Patriotic Committee, the secretary of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council states that the National Council had approved the decision to make the current appeal for funds one for all patriotic purposes. Listed: . : Rehabilitation of < our fighting forces and their dependants. Relief for the United Kingdom and the Empire overseas. Recreational huts, social clubs and rooms, entertainments. Sporting requisites. Supplementing regimental funcls. Knitted articles of every, description. Gift parcels. Comforts on troop-ships and overseasj "It will thus be appreciated that collections are not to be earmarked fors pecific purposes and for the information of the public the need is for funds for general purposes as against the creation of specific funds," the letter concludes. Red Cross Co-operation. • The secretary also forwarded the text of a, letter received by the Provincial Council chairman from the secretary of the Auckland City Centre of the N.Z. Red Cross Society (Inc.) This read: "With reference to the appeal about to be launched, I have to g.dvise that the matter was considered at a meeting of my Committee, when it w r as decided that the Society would co-operate by asking our branches to "reduce Red Cross functions to a minimum for the next few weeks and to invite, all members of the Society to assist the appeal in the private capacity."
