YOUNG FARMERS' CLUB
debate at waimana ENJOYABLE SOCIAL EVENING The Waimana Young Farmers' Club celebrated its fourth birthday recently in the Waimana Hall, when a debate and dance were held. The evening being an open one proved most successful and much enjoyed by all. The debate was held between members of the Women's Institute and the Young Farmers' Club, the subject being "Should More Women Enter Parliament," it being most Interesting and amusing. The W.I. took the affirmative, and the Y.F..C. the negative. Mr Brian White introduced the teams and the judge, Mr N. Macdonald. Mr D. Woolfield acted as timekeeper. The speakers were- Mrs A. K. Bell (leader). Mrs F« Savage and Mrs C. Wyldefor the W.I. and Mrs R. Woolfield (leader), Mrs L. Macdonald and Mrs H. White. The Y.F.C. won by 10 points, 264 against 234. The judge congratulated the W.I. team on their splendid effort, it being their first attempt at debating. Supper was served and a birthday cake made and iced by Mrs Wool-* field took pride of place.
Dancing was then enjoyed, Mrs King supplying the music, and Mr M. Burke an extra. Mr Max Wardlaw capably acted as M.G. Mr M. Burke delighted all by the singing of "The Army, the Navy and the Air Force" and "When the Lights of ..London Shine Again." Among those present were: Mesdames Woolfield, J. Wardlaw, J. Boynton, H. Wardlaw, T. Wardlaw W. McCbnneil, Gallagher, W. Stevenson, G. Stansbury, E. Cranswick. N. Macdonald, J. Mitchell, L. Ducker. Misses B. Bell, M. Woolfleld, J. McC'onnell, M. Wardlaw, K. and E. Doran, B. Barrell, A .Ruff, A. Burnett, O. Cain. j The evening closed with the NaI tional Anthem.
