RACING NOTES

The Wellington Meeting. The Auckland. Provincial horses nominated for the Wellington meeting are Sly Fox, Beau Repaire, Te Kawiti, Bronwen, Gaymiss, Orelio, Olympus, Blonde Princess and Phaleron. Owneship Change. The Surveyor gelding, Tooley Street, raced for the past' four seasons by H. Rama,, is now running in the name of W. P. Ryan, of Auckland. He is likely to be a hurdle candidate in the near future. A Fine Stayer. Willie Win, one of the best stayers engaged in the New Zealand Cup, is working satisfactorily at Riccarton, and it is stated there is every probability of this solid galloper standing up to a Gup preparation. The Buzzer Wins. Hie Auckland Cup winner, The Buzzer, trained at Awapuni, who is engaged in the big cups this season, showed at the Otalci meeting that he is returning to form, for he won the Ling Memorial Cup, one mile and, a quarter, from a strong field, Taranaki Representation. The well known New Plymouth trainer, R. Johnston, whose coup at Trcntham in the winter of 1939 with Majority and Ned Cuttle will be long remembered by many financially interested, will race Minority? Davilia and Ned Cuttle at Stratford before taking the trio on to the Wellington October meeting. King Musk Destroyed. During the running of the Trial Hurdles at Ellerslic on Saturda3 T King Musk broke a leg and had to be destroyed. Just recently the Musketoon—Queen Arclx gelding was purchased by Mr W. E. Thompson, of Te Awamutu, from Mr R. Taylor, of Te Aroha, for 250 guineas, and. in three starts since had registered two seconds and a third. Te Kawiti's Programme. After the victory of Te Kawiti in the President's Handicap at Paeroa it was expected the Night Raid geld ing would, figure in the list of acceptances for the Mitchelson Cup, a race in which he would be solidly supported. But it is now thought that- his mission may be the New Zealand Cup in which two miles event he has been allotted*?. 10. Orelio Progressing. The Limond—Water Wings representative Orelio, owned by Mr T. Impey, Auckland, has been displaying plenty of dash in his track work at Takanini lately. This quality chestnut should be quite a payable proposition this season. This time last year he was the runner-up to Beaulivre in the Great Northern Guineas, but in his races this season he may not have to meet contestants of the calibre of the Beau Pere colt. A Serious Loss. The Te Awamutu owner-breeder, Mr A. J. McGovern, has sustained a serious loss by ihe death of the three year old Royal Descent by Beau Pere—The Begum, therefore a half-brother to Mazir, Stretto and High Gasle. Royal Descent raced successfully as a two year old, but was later taken out of training on account of respiratory, trouble, for which an operation would have been necessary. A Protest. The Waikato Hunt Club, of Cambridge, is protesting against the decision of the Minister of Internal Affairs refusing to allow its annual meeting to be held at Te Rapa, on the ground that the military camp has caused such material alterations to the buildings that much cost would be involved, while the decision may mean the breaking up of the camp for at least a few day,s . This is a case in which an affirmative reply from the Minister -would have saved a lot of trouble. (Continued foot next column).

RoyaJ. Chief's Engagements. . Probably in view of the New Zealand Cup meeting and to assist in furthering his preparation, Royal Chief is to fulfil his engagements on both days of the Dunedin fixture. The King's Birthday. The King's Birthday, celebrated last year in June, is to be observed on November 25, and naturally it lias been considered that some racing institution would benefit by rea- | son of the date selected,, It now transpires that ths fortunate body is the Levin Racing Club which will hold its spring meeting on No-, vember 23 and 25.
