MAORI CHILDREN'S WAR EFFORT
Subscriptions from native schools to the Patriotic Funds send a warm sense of pride and appreciation through the average Pakeha. The marvellous way in which the Maoris have responded to the war appeals in this district is a mat* ter for warm congratulation, but when the efforts of the Maori children are also noted ,in occasional £5 donations from concerts, produce sales and the like, it means something: infinitely greater and shows how deeply the native race has taken upon itself the realisation that this war is "their war!" With the Pakeha their warriors will fight stoutly shoulder to shoulder until victory is finally achieved, and the ! Pakeha on his part could not look for a better or more trustworthy comrade; -
