CHILDREN'S COURT

SEVERAL BOYS CHARGED MISCHIEF AT MAT AT A Mr L. Walton, S,M», presided at a sitting of the .Children's Court held in Whakatane on Tuesday. Six boys were charged with several offences relating to mischief committed at Matata, when windows of the railway station were damaged by'air-gun pellets. Four of the boys faced two charges each, one boy three charges and one boy answered to one count. The offenders were admonished and discharged. A Maori \!>qy, aged 1-1% years, was committed to the care of the Child Welfare Officer after the hearing of a charge against him of indecently assaulting a girl.

PENALTY LIABILITY ATTENTION DRAWN TO IMPORjTANT MATTER The attention of shopkeepers in particular and the public generally is drawn to an important law which very often is overlooked. It should be known that is is an offence to supply air-guns, or the pellet ammunition for these weapons, to boys under the age of sixteen, and substantial penalties are provided for under the governing legislation. At a sitting of the Children's Court in Whakatane on Tuesday several boys were charged with mis chief and the charges arose out of possession of an air-gun. All the offenders were under the age of sixteen.
