SUVA AND BASE

USE PROPOSED BY PANAMERICAN CLIPPER SHIPS There is a possibility that the hying boat base hoaa 7 being constructed near Siwa harbour, in Fiji, will be vised by the Pan-American AirAvays Clipper in their San FranciscoAuckland servicc. By imitation from the British authorities, says the aviation correspondent of the Sydney"Morning Herald,. Pan-American Ainvays Avill make Suva a regular stop betAveen Canton Island and New Caledonia, and the Fijian Government Avill construct a flying boat base at a waterway adjacent to Sua 7 a harbour, suitable for both an Empire service and Boeing Clippers. Inquiries made in Wellington suggest that the arrangements are not as definite as would appear from the statements in the Sydney Morning Herald. The position seems to be that Pan-American Ainvays have been invited by the British .Government to make use of the Suva base and Avill in all probability do so. The Sydney Morning Herald also slates that Mr H. Gatty, Pan-Ameri-can Ainvays representative, and Cap tain J. W. Burgess, flight superintendent. of Tasman Empire Ainvays, recently visited Siwa together to confer Avith the Fiji authorities on matters connected AA'ith he construction of the base.
