CROQUET

OPENING DAY AT WHAKATANE The opening of the Whakatane Croquet Club's lawns took place on Saturday afternoon, October 5, in perfect weather. Quite a Targe attendance of members and visitors spent a very enjoyaible afternoon. The President (Mrs Shaw) in a neat speech welcomed the visitors and members and hoped the players would endeavour to come otit i\s much as possible and make the season a successful one. Then calling on the vice-president, Mrs Loane, to play the first ball, Mrs Shaw declared the greens open for play. Progressive croquet was played, the winners being Mesdames Caislejr, Guest and Miss Healey. The president then presented the prizes and Mrs Mitchell, president of the Taneatua Glub, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the Whakatane Club for the very pleasant afternoon and extended a hearty invitation to the opening of the Taneatua Club's greens on Wednesday, October !?.
