THE KNOX CLUB OPENING LAST SATURDAY The annual meeting of the Knox Tennis Club was held in Septem-i ber, the committee elected being as follows:— President: Rev. H. Hogg; vicepresidents; Miss R. Garaway and Mi- J.. Pearson; secretary: Miss M. Henry; treasurer: Miss L. Schofield; committee: Mesdames M. Martin and F. Hunter and Miss M. Howat; auditor: Miss R. Garaway; ladies' captain: Miss M. Howat. Mr J.. H. Armstrong was elected Club Captain but later resigned on his transfer from the district. Messrs K. Schofield and R. Hill Avere subsequently elected members of the committee to fill vacancies. The 1940-41 season Avas officially opened by the Rev. Hogg on Satur-« day afternoon iii the presence of a good attendance of members and friends. Mr Hogg extended a very cordial welcome to all present. Rev. Lucas expressed the best Avishes of the members of the Methodist rClub Avhose opening was held on the same afternoon. Mrs Hogg then drove the first ball across the net, after which games were played until about 6.30 p.m. The Rev. Caulton was a visitor to the courts during the afternoon, and members Avere also present from the Ohope and St. George's Tennis Clubs.. TENNIS OPENING WHAKATANE METHODISTS 'MANY VISITORS ATTEND In pleasant Ave at her, the local Methodist Tennis Club opened its season last Saturday afternoon. There Avas a good attendance of local and visiting players. In performing the official opening ReA r . C. P. Lucas (President) Avelcomed the visitors from the Ohope and Anglican Tennis Clubs, ana called upon Miss Bl'yth (Club Captain) to play the first ball over the net. Revs. H.. Hogg and S. G. Caulton conveyed the good Avishes of the Presbyterian and Anglican Tennis Clubs. During the afternoon some good games AA'ere Avitnessed and enjoyed by all. Afternoon tea Avas served by the ladies.
