CALEDONIAN RALLY
GATHERING AT ROTORUA WHAKATANE BAND'S DISPLAY There can be no - question that the Whakatane 'Caledonian Society's Pipe Band made a very fine impression upon one of the largest gatherings of Caledonians to be seen in Rotorua, when it visited that town on Saturday evening. The occasion was a special one, the Rotorua Society acting as host to visitors. from Matamata, Te Aroha, Morrinsville, Paeroa, Tauranga and. Whakatane Societies, and also providing a social evening tor some 400 Territorials who are at present undergoing training in that centre. Proceedings were opened by the parading of a combined band, numbering some iifty piayeis. through the main streets of the tcyvn and; hack to the I-.itz Theatre, where a special Ingieside programme was staged. The band C>splays, by Wlmkalane and Rotorua bands were the highlights of the evening and from the splendid reception accorded the Whakatane pipers there could be no doubt that their item was thoroughly appreciated by the large audience. Whakatane also carried out the; Haggis ceremonial, the four pipers being, Messrs L. Johnson, A. E>onaldson, W. Howat and D.- Patterson/ and the bearer, Piper M. Penny. Altogether the evening can be classed as y wonderful Advertisement for the high standard which has been attained by the band, the members which are to Joe cort-i gratulated^l
