Nothing that has been said about the folly and wickedness of this terrible institution of Avar, the curse of the human race, must be taken to detract in the slightest degree from > the admiration and , Ave all, feel for the brave < risk and often lose their lives in tlio service of their country, Avrites Deaa - Inge in a neAV book of essays, "The Pacifist in Trouble." If there were not a noble side of Avar, the indigna- - tion of mankind Avould have swept it -away long ago. It is to the honour of human nature that the appeal lor self-sacrifice is stronger than allsv the self-regarding instincts. We must never say or think that our gallant boys died in vain. Their cause Avas sanctified by their deA r otion; their reward is with their God; their place is among the noble army of martyrs.
