WAIMANA NOTES

INSTITUTE MEETING (Beacon Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Wai-niana-Nukuhou Women's Institute was held last Tuesday afternoon, in the Waimana Hall, Mrs N. Clarlc presiding over a good attendance, At the conclusion of the business all Grandma's were presented with posies of flowers' (it being Grand-* ma's Day). Littie Monica Boynton sang "When Your Hair Has Turned To Silver," and "Grandma Said.* It was decided to hold a bazaar in November Tor Patriotic funds and the members contributed £2 towards the Leper Fund. An exchange of programme with Waiotahi was accepted. The,l4 Xmas parcels were packed and forwarded, and the Institute has sent 17 Xmas cakes to the boys who have left Waimana and Nukuhou. Members are still knitting for soldiers. The day's competitions were as follows:—Best. Flower; Mrs F. Bell (Tulip) 1, Mrs T. Wardlaw 2, Mrs Iv. Bell 3. Best Vegetable: Mrs Black 1, Mrs I. Savage~2, Mrs King 3. Posy of Wild Flowers: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs King 2, Mrs I. Savage 3. Jar of Dark Plum Jain: Mrs T. Wardlaw 1, Mrs I. Savage 2, Mrs F. Bell 3. Gingerbread Loaf: Miss M. Wardlaw 1, Mrs T. Wardlaw 2, Mrs Stevenson 3.
