Pot-holed and corrugated conditions on portions of the Whakatane to Opotiki highway have been the subject of local' complaint recently, and the Association's .representative who visited the Bay of Plenty regarded the road surface as below the standard usually associated with a first-class 'State' highway, states the current issue of the Automobile Association's Official Bulletin. The number of cyclists in Whakatane, always large, is increasing, and that applies also to the number .of-bicycle thefts. In their own interests cyclists are urged to take precautions. Another Heading. Readers will note that the Edgecumbe dance advertised in the last two issues as being in aid of the BEACON Fund for the Relief of Distress in London has a new heading, 'Dance in aid of the-National Patriotic Appeal.' The change is made because had the proceeds; of the dance been acknowledged in the BEACON list, Edgecumbe would have lost the credit for the amount raised. Proceeds will be handed to the honorary treasurer of the InterZone Patriotic Committee.
