KILT AND PLAID

SEPTEMBER INGLESIDE LOCAL SCOTS CELEBRATE Once again the King Street Hall was. filled to capacity, when the Whakatane Caledonian Society held its September Ingleside last Friday evening. Town and country were well represented and the evening went with the usual good swing from beginning to end. Chief W. Simons once again fulfil led the role as M.C. and saw to it that no dull moments invaded a thoroughly enjoyable programme.. With the Pipe Band in full force and Mrs Iv. Armstrong's orchestra in attendance ilie dancers lacked nothing for bright, lively music and the usual fare of modern and old-' time numbers was warmly appreciated.. Enjoyable items Ave re contributed by Miss Molly Armer (Sword Dance) Betty Ansell (Sailor's Hornpipe), Mojly Walton (Pipe Solo) and Ma: G. Tweedie (Scottish Humour). The latter artist received a particularly good hearing and it wilt interest local Scots to know that he was formerly a prominent member of the Balclutha Society. The supper arrangements were in the capable hands of the Society's secretary, Mrs . Berry, and her band of ltidy helpers. The second half of the programme found the same happy spirit prevailing, Auld Lang Syne concluding a memorable night's enjoyment. The Ingleside can be considered a record for the King Street Hall,' the door takings amounting to no less than £24. Visit to Rotorua. Arrangements have been completed for the local Pipe Band and several members of the Society to travel to Rotorua on Saturday next, when, as guests oft he local Society they will sstage and control a programme in the Ritz Hall. The pro- 1 ceedings wil include the Display March by the Whakatane boys and several combined items with the Rotorua Band.
