INCREASE NEEDED
THE GUARANTEED PRICE . STABILISE ECONOMIC FORCES "I think we would be wise to support the request to the Government for an increase jn the guaranteed price for dairy produce for the 1040-41 season," said Mr W. Marshall, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., at a meeting of the South Auckland Dairy Association last week when giving an outline of the negotiations that had taken place between members Off the Cabinet and representatives of the dairy industry. Mr Marshall added that' a conference was to be held in Wellington at which representatives of the Gov eminent, the Farmers' Lnion, the dairying industry and the Federation of Labour would attend, thte object being to attempt to arrive at some means by which the rising tide of costs might bearrested. Mr W. Darrall said it was most important that an effort should be made to stabilise the economic forces of the country in order to cushion the effect of a possibly drop in prices .of primary products when the war was ever. Mr Mervyn Wells said there were still 23 applications for amendments to awards to be heard by the Arbitration Court, and none of these had been withdrawn since the recent 5 per cent, increase In wages. A resolution to support the request for an increase in the guaranteed price to cover increased costs of production was carried.
