PATRIOTIC DANCE

VICE-VERSA COSTUMES 5%h(? vice-versa dance held in the Waimana recently in aid of Patriotic, Funds, was a~" • crdwnmg* success in eysry way. The hall was packed with dancers and spectators. A great number of thbse present were in vice-yersa costumes, Avhich were very good and caused much laughter and merriment. The men were dressed ir evening and afternoon frocks, beach pyjamas, schoolgirls' outfit,, etc. Mr Norman Gallagher and Mrs J. Ruff were winners in their lespective sections. The dance music was contributed by Mr and Mrs King and Mr M. Burke, the latter also playing an extra. Messrs H. Wardlaw and. R. Morton were the officials. - A cake, decorated by Mrs J.. . L* Burnett, was won by Mr Bryan Burnett. The takings for the evening were £15 18s.

GARDENING CIRCLE The monthly meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou gardening circle was held recently at the home of Mrs A. K. Bell, Waimana. There was a goodl attendance of members, with Mrs John Addison presiding. The growing of numerous kinds of flowers was well discussed and the treal ment of the Asparagus bed at this time of the year was given by/; Mrs J. Mitchell. Ai competitions af-> ranged by Mrs Bell : , was won by Mrs Mitchell. The day's competitions were:— Best flower: Mrs Stevenson (Hyacinth) 1, Mrs Eagle (Dalfodlil) 2, Mrs King (Red Hot Poker) 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Stansbury (Lettuce) 1, Mrs Ducker (Leek) 2, Mrs Eagle (Carrot) 3. Shoulder spray: Mrs Wool field 1, Mrs Stevenson 2,. Mr? Stiansbury 3. Lavender sachet: Mrs Stansbury 1, Mrs A. K. Bell 2, Mr* Mitchell 3.
