TRAFFIC ON COUNTY ROADS TABLE COMPILED Responding to an enquiry by the Whakatane County Council, the Commissioner of Transport forward ed a table which set out the volume of truck traffic per twenty-four hour day at various points in the County. The figures were taken from the 1937-38 census. "In regard to the 4%-G% ton group it must be remembered that at that time all these trucks would be Class 3 vehicles and those over QVz tons would be unclassified or could use classified roads only under permit issued by the Main High ways Board or the road controlling authority," the Commissioner pointed out; "If the Council should decide to buikl roads and bridges to Class 4 standards only, the majority of th<s 4%-6% ton group and all over the 6y-2. ton group would be greatly restricted as to payload capacity," the letter concluded.
