3 ' CALEDONIAN SOCIETY'S INGLESIDE GATHERING IN KING STREET HALL Skirl of pipes, and flash of tartan marked the August Inglesidle of the Whakatane . Caledonian x Society, which took place in the King Street Hall last Friday evening. As usual the building was packed Highlander snd sassanach shouldering each othjr on the crowded floor and entering vitli a vim into the Gay Gordons, :he Highland sehottische and other, outlandish steps which send the Scottish blood a-coursin'. Chief Symons was once again in control and saw tae it that there >vas nae laggin' in the programme.. Clieerfu' music came frae Mrs Armstrang's orchestra, while the braw iaddies o' the Pipe Band made man;u' sounds wi' the tartan bag, an* Lhe rawhide. Roun' an' rouri' the loor went the laddies and their oonny lassies tae the lively measures ' >' the pipes, while the muir staid preferred the daintier waltz or vaBut hoots, mon, yerw'udnaeen joyed astoundin' rollin" and twistin* exhibition by Shirley Hannah. Then 'tw 'ud. dae yer lieirt gudie tae watch 'tw 'ucl dsie yer heirt guee tae watch yin lassie Isobel Martin execute the Seann Trubliais, aya'richt. An' ye niver ken hpfr"Weel the gran' auld reel was tiff ye slaw • the wee group on the boards. They were Isobel Martin, Wallace an* Molly Walton, an' Betty Flavell. Ay," an' it warmed the cockles o' yer lieirt tae watch their elegance o* foot. Then came the supper, wi' all that a mon c'ud wish for. It was served by the smilin' leddies o' the clan headed oy the secretary o' the society, Mrs Berry. An' a finer spread I c'ud no imagine, 'ceptin' that the, liaggis was nae there. Sae they danced and danced till the wee sma' hours, an' wi' ane an* a' enjoyin' theirsels sae much,- it was har-i'd tae sing Auld! Lang Syne. But. we did it, an ye can hae nae doots that lookin' forward tae the next time whin the auld society puts on its next Ingleside. .
