EXTRACTS FROM "EAST COAST GUARDIAN" AN ERROR CORRECTED Old newspaper clippings are always interesting to read and; the latest to be i*eceived at the office of this paper is from the Coast Guardian," January 22nd, 1902, It would seem, from a perusal, that long hours though farmers; work at present, the hours in 1902 were even longer. "The farmers of the district will note that the annual meeting of the Opotiki branch of the New Zealand Farmers* Union will be held on Saturday next, at 9.30 "p;m. The business is important,, and it would be well for all who are interested to make a point of attending." 1 No mention is made of the probable hour of concluding the 'important business.' "An error appeared in our report of the last Opotiki County Council meeting in connection with the Ohiwa ferry service, when it was stated that the Chairman proposed not to entertain the applications of Maoris or halfeastes. His proposal only applied tc. such halfcasftes as were unable to 'speak English," is a correction on the same clipping.
