TWO CHARGES HEARD CONVICTIONS RECORDED n Hopa Hauwai, labourer, pleaded , t guilty to a charge of being found drunk in a public place when he appeared before Messrs W. Sullivan j. and C. G. Lucas, Justices of the ' Peace, in the Police Court on Mon- ,, day afternoon. Sergeant M. Farrell informed the Bcnch that defendant had been in custody since Saturday and that in itself was 1 some punishment. Hauwai was convicted and discharged. Alexander Hume, single, a native * of Scotland, aged! 33, also pleaded ' guilty, the charge in his case briing one of behaving in an offensive 1 manner in the Strand. Sergeant 3 Farrell outlined the circumstances ' of the case, adiding that accused . was practically, an invalid and would be unable to meet a heavy fine. Drink Was Hutnels trouble, J said the Sergeant, and he had the ■reputation of being a, good worker when sober. "It's a pretty serious offence," ob- ' served the Bench, addressing accus--3 ed, "and you can't expect to get off! " scot free. The maximum penalty " is £5, the decision of the Bench be- ; ing that you will be fined £2 and ' alowed 14 days ki which to pay."
