' - YOUR Directors pay tribute to the foresight, enthusiasm and conscientious effort oi the early settlers original Directors and past employees of the Company, for their splendid work in helping to place this Company in the sound position which it occupies to-day. •, MR A L Luke is deserving of our gratitude for his services as a Director during part ol the period when the Company carried out operations at Awakeri. Then and later Mr Luke gave a great deal of time, thought, andvaluable assistance towards the planning and erection of buildings both at Awakeri and, Edgecumbe. . _ , „ , THE name of Mr John William Sumner must be associated with any mention of the first twenty-five years of the Company's manufacturing operations. A Director in 1915, Chairman of ; Directors for several years, a Director for the greater part of the period undei: review and in partimlar in the vear 1939 Mr Sumner can look back on many years of responsible effort. MR Miles Hamill'is well known to all residents of the Rangitaiki Plains district ness man and a Public Accountant. Mr Hamill has reason to be proud of his long connection with the Company as its Auditor. He was appointed Auditor on the 10th August 1922 and has certified the accounts for the years 1923 to 1940 inclusive. _ , . WITH every successful Company there is associated some individual whose work, whether widely known or otherwise, is responaible. more than anything else for the efficiency of a worth while organisation. Those qualified to undoubtedly agree that the of the Company's former Secretary, Mr J. M. Eccles, was quite outstanding. All Mr Eccles efforts were directed towards low costs, high pay-outs, and the maintaining of the Company's affairs m an absolutely sound position. His motto was "Service" • and service he gave. Your Directors have no hesitation in paying a tribute to h'is great work. j . ,■ , ~. < WHILE there are many Shareholders, past Directors, Emplpyees and others who have given of their best and have done a great deal for our. Company, it is impossible to do them justice here. They, one and all, have our sincere thanks for their valuable efforts. . . a NOT many years ago the Rangitaiki Plains was really a swamp. Drainage and cultivatioa have greatly assisted in making most of the Dairy Farms on the Plains almost as productive as the bfst dairying land in New Zealand. A great deal of country remains to be brought under cultivation. The peak output reached by your Factory is approximately 5,000 tonsJbut to-darbuild-ings and plant can adequately deal wiith an annual output of 0.500* tons of Creamery utte - . THERE is no need to mention the Company's position to-day with' its Veterinary Service, huge Trading Store, Pig Farm, and many Departments. The Balance Sheet gives you full informatloD" I sincerely hope that the story told here, however simple and lacking in full information, viffl be of interest. I look forward to the day, not far distant I trust, when the war clouds will disappear and we can once again work in full and quiet co-operatit>n, anc„ meet together m times of peace ana p a , ppl " e ®f he W.
