FAREWELL DANCE
PRESENTATION TO WHAKATANE SOLDIERS LARGE CROWD ATTENDS Anyone passing the Winter Show grounds on Saturday night coal<] be pardoned for supposing that benzine restrictions did not apply to Whakatane. Parked in rows was the greatest assembly of cars seen in the grounds since the war began and the meaning of it all was a dance tendered as a farewell to Whakatane members of the Third Echelon. Arrangements, in the care of the ladies' 1 working committee* were faultless, the supper, especially, be ing a credit to those responsible. Acting for the committee, the Mayoress, Mrs B. S. Barry, made a prqsentation to each soldier of the borough and, as during the function earlier in the day, each recipient was cheered. Masters of Ceremony for the even ing were Messrs Cyril Walker and R. Ferry. A statue waltz was won by Miss F. Oswald and Private Moore. Among those present were: Mesdames Skiffington (Taneatua); H.
