THE WAGE INCREASE
Sir, —The recent 5 , per cent, increase in wages generally would. seem to be a signal to set the joybells ringing—but frankly I am looking for the catch. In times like these when conditions are far from normal a spontaneous grant of another 5 per cent on wages gives one to ponder whether the old adage may apply here —"What you miss on the cocoanut shies you pick up on the roundabout. Does anyone know if this is the intention of the Government in the matter —that is will they stabalise prices so that the employee will really benefit by this 5 per cent increase or on the other hand will the old-time juggling begin again and prices soar to those dizzy limits we have known' before, and remember, alas, too well. Who can tell me? Yours etc., ■ ENQUIRER.
