question of postponement DISAPPROVAL BY HOSPITAL BOARD The question of whether the New Zealand local body elections should be held as usual next year or postponed on account of the war was discussed by the members of the Opotiki Hospital Board. Mr E. .T. Bai-gant considered the cost of the elections would be money well spent to keep the confidence of the people. The chairman, Mr S. Maxwell, reminded members that the British Empire was at war for the purpose of retaining Democratic rule anc 1 said it would be a wrong move tc attempt to extend the term of of fice. Other members also opposed anj extension of office, and on the motion of the chairman, "seconded bj ( Mr Debreceny, the board unanimous ' ly decided to oppose the postpone ' ment of local body elections.
