AUGUST MEETING HELD LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS POSTPONEMENT NOT FAVOUREp The Bay of Plenty Hospital Board held the August meeting on Thursday, Mr J. W. Sumner presiding over Messrs L. Buddie,.F. J. Savage, C. A. Suckling, and Mrs W. A. McCracken, with the acting-Secretary, Mr A. Bridger, and the Medical Superintendent, Dr. E. Tewsley Dawson, also attending. Leave of absence was granted Messrs R. W. Schofield, F. J. Burt and A. F. McGougan. Because only three weeks hacl elapsed since the previous meeting the agenda was somewhat ligh'ter than usual. A letter from the Hospital Boards Association invited an expression on the proposal to postpone th;e local body elections, due to be held next May, a resolution being passed to the, effect that the Board was not in favour of the postponement. Before the meeting concluded the Chairman conveyed the Board's con gratulations to the Medical Superintendent, the Matron, and Sister Harding, on the results obtained by local entrants in the Maternity Trainees Examination. Remarking on the fact that a nurse from the Whakatane hospital was one of the four ii. New Zealand obtaining hon-! our 3 in the examination, Mr Sumner said it reflected credit on those concerned in the training, and on the hospital. The Medical Superintendent's report for the month showed that discharges exceeded admissions by: four the respective figures being 124 and 120. Thirty-four births had been registered for the month while of the 34 operations performed,, 9 were .major and 25 were minor. The daily average for Juluy was 59,3.
