FARMERS' REQNIREMENTS BUSINESS SHOULD COME FIRST That farmers should be permitted enough petrol, additional to coupons already receiA'cd, so that a liberal alloAvance for business purposes Avould lie available and that petrol coxipons distributed for pleasure trips should be further restricted to allow of this being done was a resolution carried at a meeting of the Northern Thames SubProvince of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. Mr A. J, Campbell (Waihi) said that in the last 10 years farmers had increased their production considerably, due to better means- of: transport. Farmers, he added, Avere noAV 111 danger of having production reduced a lack of petrol. He said he thought farmers should be given all the petrol they needed before any pleasure petrol was granted. Mr Campbell moved that all farmers should be granted enough petrol to make at least tAVO trips per AA r eek to the nearest business centre and that the petrol be made available out of that at present granted for pleasure. Mr H. H. Sutton (Waihi) pointed out the need for. farmers to be able to come into toAA r n at a moment's notice for. stock remedies if they were hot to be badly penalised and production handicapped. Mr A. H. Blaekmore (Waihi) sugi gested that coupons should be reduced to leave more available for genuine business. 'Mr S. E. Hall (Matatoki) said that where a fanner's application Avas genuine lie AA'ould not be refused petrol. After considerable discussion the above resolution Avas adopted.
