CONFIDENCE IN SPEECH-MAKING

WARMEST congratulations to the Young Farmers' Clubs of the Eastern Bay of Plenty, on the initiative and enthusiasm behind the promotion of the annual debating competition, which this year took place at Edgecumbe. From a practical point of view the debates are invaluable to the growing young man. Not only do*they inspire confidence and clearthinking but also cultivate the correct use of English, a nicety of diction and a power of modulation. All these are attributes which in later years will if developed become lasting efforts. The clubs should learn to'regard this phase of their activities as one of the most vital from a developmental point of view.
