GOOD ATTENDANCE AT ROUSING COMMUNITY SING FORERUNNER OF REGULAR WEEKLY FEATURE Most of the seating accommodation was occupied in the King Street Hall on Wednesday night when a good attendance assisted in swinging' along Whakatane's first community sing this year. The majority of the erstwhile vocalists were rather shy at first but responded to the encouragement of Messrs Ted Hayden and Taffy Atkinson, the vigorous and able song leaders, and all were roaring lustily at the finish. Items during the evening were given by the Misses Patricia and Cecily Cottrell, Master Gerald Gart shore and Messrs Innes Woolliams and P. Bridger, the latter pair show ing up in their own version of "Kiss Me Goodnight, Sergeant-Maj-or Accompanists who lent their ser*vices were Mrs K. Armstrong and Miss Tui Hambley. The success of the sing promises well for the series which it is proposed to hold weekly and it is probable that the hall will not hold the attendance next. week. Proceeds were to patriotic funds PATRIOTIC AFFAIRS MEETING AT OTAKIRI A combined meeting of the A ant B Social Committees of the O'takiri Patriotic Society-.was held at Mi Lord's residence last Thursday even ing, when it was 'decided to com tinue holding the series of monthly dances following the success of the two held.
