MUSTARD GAS DOCTOR FOR ITALIANS The authorities are criticised for allowing a famous Italian specialist in tropical diseases and mustard £as to leave Britain after Italy's declaration of war. "Why was Sir Aldo Castellani allowed to return to Italy?" asks Lord Donegal in the Sunday Despatch. He points out that Sir Aldo, after taking refuge at the Italian Embassy. was permitted, despite the fact that he possessed no diplomatic immunity, to accompany the Embassy members homes. Lord Donegal says Sir Aldo Cas tellani had perhaps the biggest share in the Italian victory in Abys sinia because his skill in tropical diseases enabled the Italian troops to attain good health unprecedented in such campaigns. Lord Donegal also alleges that it has been definitely established that Sir Aldo Castellani devised new tactics for the use of mustard gas against the Abyssinians. Nevertheless he has been allowed to go tc Italy to become one of our deadliest foes and wage scientific warfare against British troops in Africa.
