REFUGEE CHILDREN
HOMES IN WHAKATANE , FORTY-THREE APPLICATIONS RECEIVED Although the scheme for bringing refugee children from England to the colonies has been postponed in the meantime, the local committees responsible for allocating them in homes in this district is still accepting applications, in vieAV of the possibility of children being sent abroad from sheer necessity in the near future. In the meantime it is interesting to note that a total of 43 homes in the Whakatane district have offered to accommodate no less than 62 children. Details of the allocation of the homes are as under: Whakatane County 22 applications to take 32 children, Opotiki Borough and County 14 applications to take 22children, Whakatane Borough 7 applications to take S children. . It is learnt that tAvo children from the 'danger belt' in England will be coming to Whakatane Un a private capacity to a home provided by friends Avho have been in touch Avitli their parents.
