POSTMEN ASSIST
CLOTHES DRIVE FOR THE LADY GAL WAY PATRIOTIC GUILD APPEAL ON SATURDAY | Very generous assistance has been afforded by the Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department and his staff throughout the Dominion to an appeal made ov Her Excellency, Lady Gal way, for clothing and materials for the relief of refugees in Great Britain. Her Excellency has stated that the only object of the Guild, which is comprised of. voluntary women workers, returned soldi'ers and others, is to obtain the maximum help for refugees. On Saturday, the 20th July, postal officers throughout the Dominion have agreed, at the request of Her Excellency, to conduct a clothing drive for the collection of gift parcels for delivery to branches of the Guild. Rural boxholders are also being invited to donate parcels of clothing and to leave them at their rural . boxes for collection by the rural mail contractor. The parcels' should be marked "Lady Galway Patriotic Guild Appeal." Rural mail contractors are co-operating by collecting parcels from rural boxes in the areas where they operate. Benzine for Collectors. The general arrangement for the afternoon of the 20th July is that each postman will cover his walk ]\n company with two or three volunteer helpers. He will call at each house and pick up any gift parcels that the householders may prepare in response to this appeal. Private motorists arc invited to co-operate with the Post Office in this work, and for the purpose they are asked to offer their assistance to'the nearest Postmaster, who will arrange to place them at the service of the respective postmen. There is evidence t'hat this assistance will be readily forthcoming. To overcome any difficulties regarding petrol supply, each person making his car available for the collection of parcels will be handed a petrol coupon entitling .him to purchase one gallon of motor spirit. The Boy Scouts* organisation throughout - the Dominion is cooperating -in this effort, and the services of the Scouts on this occasion of dire need Avill. be appreciated both by the householders and by the postal officials in view of the amount of visiting and handling of packages that Avill be entailed.
