GREATER OUTPUT
WHAKATANE PAPER MILLS EXPORT TO AUSTRALIA Attributed mainly to greater efficiency on the part of thj employees, the value of the Whakatane Paper Mills output is steadily increasing. Production up till now has been sufficient only for the requirements of this country but with the increase an export trade is) being built up and consign- 5 ments have already gone overseas. For the Aveek ending October the of the output Avas and in the next three months had risen by approximately 50 per cent, the figure for the Aveek ending January 11 being £3459. Production greatly increased in the next six months and for the Aveek ending June 10 £6559 Avas the value of the cardboard manufac- ' tured. Succeeding weeks Tiave seen " this ]ca'cl maintained and it is expected that Avithin a few weeks the £8000 mark will be reached. About two months ago the necessary contacts ma<de in Australia and a shipment has already been made to Sydney. At the pre 4 sent time a large consignment is awaiting shipment to Melbourne ' and others to Adelaide and Brisbane, are psnding. Ample stocks of coal for the furnaces ensures that there is no hold up and there is ni difficulty iii importing the necessary chemicals „ needed in the manufacture of the cardboard. I The Mills are in operation for , tAventy-four hours a day, six days a week, the men working on ro- . tational shifts of eight hours each.
