MAORIS CONVICTED FINES IMPOSED liN FOUR CASES Tom Kereti (Mr R, F. Smith) did not appear when called yesterday to answer charges of procuring liquor while a prohibited person and entering licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order. Sergeant Farrell said tha't this was Kereti's fifth breach in the last twelve months and Mr Smith said that he could say nothing in extenuation except that the two charges referred to the one offence. £5 and 21s costs, and £2 and 15.s costs were the respective penalties. Hira Hi was the second offender under, the liquor heading and the charges preferred were identical with those against the previous defendant. After Constable F. M. Fuller had given evidence and it had been stated that it was a first off)fence, the Magistrate inflicted a fine of £1 and costs on each count.
