The nominations received by the Avondale Jockey Club also show "an increase of 11 compared with last j-ear, the figures being as follows: Champion Plate 57 (56); Avondale Stakes 64 (59); Avondale Guineas 121 (116); total, 242 (231). The entries for the Canterbury Jockey Club's classic events totalled 768. as against 566 for the corresponding races 12 months ago, an increase of 202. The figures are as follows-: Welcome Stakes 109 (76); Middle Park Plate 71 (68); Champagne Stakes 145 (101); Challenge Stakes 135 (97); Derby Stakes 187 (153); and Oaks Stakes 114 (78).
