*. i WHAKATANE BRANCH The July meeting was held in the Parish Hall on 2nd inst, the President, Mrs SutclilTe, in the chair and a very large attendance. The meeting opened with the sing : jng of the Ode to Friendship, and ' the reading and confirmation of ' the minutes of the previous meeting In connection with the Lady Galway's Fund, a committee was appointed to collect and forward garments for overseas. Convenors of various circles reported progress up to date; and the Knitting arid Soldiers' Parcels Committees botli proved to be well forward with their work. The Treasurer . read the balance sheet in connection with Winter Show activities, from which the In-* stitute was in a highly satisfactory position. j Members' Day. After the foregoing business; the President handed the meeting over to the Members' Committee as is customary on Members' Day, whereupon Mrs Darvill was elected to the chair, with Mrs Lysaght, Secretary, who with the following committee had arranged the entertainment for the day: Mesdames G, Comisky, Ramson, Mayo and Miss F. Ramson. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames W. Bridger and J.r Creeke, who donated trophies for competition. Mrs Scliofield rendered "Oh, Rest in the Lord" which received hearty applause; as also did a tap dance by Miss Shirley Comisky. A talk by Mrs Pearson on Ceylon was both instructive and amusing and greatly appreciated. After, tea was served the members joined in competitions, the results of which were: —Paper Fish Race: Mrs Larsen. Wall Competition: Mrs Ryde. The month's competitions were won by: Mrs Norman, Pickles; Mrs Brown, Flower; Mrs Darvill, Sausage Rolls. . During the afternoon the Trading Stall superintended by Mesdames Moran, Mayo, and Miss Ramson did a very brisk trade.
