OBITUARY

MR JOHN McLEOD Many people throughout the Bay of Plenty and East Coast districts will regret to learn of the death in Auckland of Mr John McLeod, former headmaster of three of Gis~ borne's town and district schools, and well known for his farming interests. Born in Skye, Scotland, Mr McLeod received part of his education there, and, coming to New Zealand as a youth, continued his studies at Canterbury College. For a number of years afterwards he was farming in Canterbury with his brother before joining the teaching profession. A feature of Mr McLeod's teaching career was that in every position he held he was a headmaster and wherever he went he was beloved: by the children and earned the high respect and esteem of the parents. While in the Gisborne district, Mr McLeod turned his attention to farming, handling several properties in different parts of the district, and was the first investor in connection with the subdivision of the old-established Repongaere estate, although he retained that property for only one year. Mr McLeod is survived by Mrs McLeod, two daughters and one son, Mr Stanley McLeod, who is in charge of the N.Z. Railway's Road Service Office, in Whakatane,
