MORE MARRIAGES AND FEWER DEATHS QUARTERLY REGISTRATION STATISTICS If the Wliakatane district is any indication -the birth rate in New Zealand for the current year should reach the highest figure recorded. For the Quarter ended June 30th 40 births were registered in "Whakatane, compared with 22 for the same period last year. Deaths were 11, compared with 24, and marriages showed a one hundred per cent increase, the figures being 26 and 13» Figures for the half year,; in the order Births, Deaths and Marriages, with last year's figures in parentheses, are respectively: 85 (66), 21 (37), 48 (28).
