A WARNING
POTENTIAL SIGN-WRITERS TAKE HEED! PROSECUTIONS WILL FOLLOW DAMAGE The Automobile Association (Aucl land) is at present erecting numbers of new sign-posts throughout the Bay of Plenty and on some of them can be seen a plate notifying that a reward of £2 will be paid to anyone giving information leading to the conviction of persons responsible for defacing the posts. According to a statement made Saturday by the officef- stationed at Whakatanc, Patrol Cyril D. Walker, many people cannot resist the temptation to carve their initials or names, etc., or write them with pencils on the posts and actual signs. One instance lie gave Avas the post erected at the Awakeri Hot Springs, which is a particularly bad example of the olfence. It may jjerliaps not be generall3 r . known.that the Automobile Association has the authority to prosecute, [even though a name or initial be only pencilled on the sign. Convictions have been secured in the past and an intensification of the Association's policy of prosecution following the detection of the offenders will be necessary if public cooperation in the proper care and maintenance of invaluable sign posts is not forthcoming.
