Dear Sir,

Letters to the Editor must be clearly written on one side of the paper only. Where a nom-de-plumc is used the name of the writer must be enclosed for reference purposes only. WHERE ARE THE FARMERS? Sir,: —As I travel around the Bay of Plenty and meet people on farms, I have never struck a farmer or a jackaroo. I often remark to the person on a farm, "You have got a nice farm," but I am told that it is being managed or is let on sharemilking terms. "But where is the farmer?" I ask, and the answer usually - is that he fives in Auckland, or he is an M.P. or something like that. Some years ago we kneW a farmer as a man who worked his land. His main ambition was to" win a ploughing match. A musical sort of cove, if he never possessed a concertina he would sit by the open fire-place, smoke his old clay pipe and fiddle with his whiskers. He Wore his best suit only on Sundays. He banked the fire of a night to save a match in the morning—and never let his daughters out after dark. Yours etc., O. PARK.
