RACING NOTES

Another Aspirant. Young Paddon, one of the very best mud-larks in the province, is being schooled over the jumps at Te Rapa, and showing real capability in this department. This Surveyor representative should be a real success as a hurdler. A High Priced One. The Bulaiulshar—Tea Tattle colt that realised the highest price, 2000 guineas, at the 1910 National Sales, when secured by Mr C. Wheeler, of Adelaide, was shipped to Australia this week. He was broken in at the Grange Stud, Wajnganui, and will be put into work next month, in view of Australian two year old events. A Notable Record. The Gisborne four year old Native Song, who won a double at the Napier Park meeting, has been victorious in the greatest number of races in New Zealand in the present season. In 17 starts he has scored on ten occasions, with three seconds and one third. His pri?:c money, totalling £939, is likely to be materially increased in the near future. A Maximum Weight. The Racing Conference is to consider next month the following remit: That in hurdle races an.l steeplechases where the stake is £400 or over, no horse shall Carry a greater weight than 12st. Evidently the sponsors of this remit are of the opinion that there are few topnotchers in the jumping department, and that 12st is amply sufficient for the best of them to carry; Valuable Importations. J Arrivals in the Dominion last week were two thoroughbred mares that will be very valuable additions to New Zealand's high grade stock. They are Italian Blonde and Miss Stefan, imported for Miss M. Man, of Rotorua, and Mr G. E. Robertson, of Wellington, respectively. Italian Blonde is by Apelle and Miss Stefan bj r Stefan the Great by The Tetrarch. A Promising Galloper. The Hawke's Bay owned Vascones winner of four races recently for Messrs A. G. and W. R. Stead, is now looked upon as a very promising proposition. On pedigree lines she ranks distinctly high being by Gascony from Talari, by Chief Ruler from Doree, by Lucullus from D'Oro. Talari is a sister to Princess Doreen who won the Welcome Stakes and the Great Northern Foal Stakes at Ellerslie, and the Winter Cup at Riccarton, while D'Oro is a full sister to Desert Gold. May Not Race Again. At present that successful steeple chaser, All Irish, is enjoying a spell in the paddock. It is reported thai he may not race again,, but unless next season brings out a' percentage of capable jumpers, able to carry solid weights,. Iris owner may think it worth while to again produce the Illumination gelding. It was only in the winter of 1937 that All Irish won the Hunt Cup, Pakuranga Cup and Hunters' Steeples at Ellerslie, so in the matter of years of racing She should stand up to further seasons with the colours up. He is said to - dearly love the Ellerslie Hill, and as about 90 per cent of the chasers do not,, he has a big advantage in this respect. Truly of High Grade. ""Mr John Donald, of Wanganui, when dispersing his stud, sold Beau Pere for 3000 guineas and realised high rates for all his thoroughbreds. At that time he had fully decided to go right out of the thoroughbred horse line owing to his ill-health. For the past two years he has resided in England, but evidently he has not lost his lbve for the high grade heroes of the turf. He has now made an arrangement with the owner of Coronach for the horse !o come to New Zealand, and his safe arrival here will mean a very fine acquisition to the blood stock of this Dominion. Coronach is a very handsome chestnut horse standing ha : nds with a full share of the Hurry On quality. Among the leadiig events won by him were the Eng lish Derby. St Leger and EclipseStakes. His winnings totalled £48, 255, while those of his progeny arcover £120,000.
