A GREAT EFFORT
MAORI RED CROSS SHOP DOES WELL CON TIN UAT lON PROPOSED The Whakatane Maori Red Gross Society, incorporating the Paroa and Poroporo Maori Patriotic Committee established a bring-and-buy shop on the Harbour Board's declamation area and this was open for the lour dajs of the Show. During that time £71 was raiseel by the sale of produce, cakes, articles of clothing, etc., and a not inconsiderable portion of the total raised resulted from the catering side of the organisation, which provided three-course meals cooked in Maori style. £53 12s 3d has been forwarded to the Patriotic Funds. This committee is not restricting its efforts to shop sales and two weeks ago a very successful dance was held, the £20 realised going to the Sick and Wounded appeal and being credited to the Maori representative in the Queen Carnival which was conducted in the Auckland Province. The committee wishes to express thanks to all those who rallied round during Show week and helped, by practical assistance and encouragement, and also by the liberal patronage extended. It is intended to open the shop every Friday and it is hoped that the support so generously forthcoming last week will be continued. The Whakatane Maori Red Cross Committee is to be commended on such a successful and vigorous start and should .do even better as public appreciation grows.
