OTAKIRI BRANCH ANNUAL BIRTHDAY PARTY The Otakiri branch of the' Women's Institute held its annual birthday party recently. The local hall presented quite a festive' appearance and many visitors were $re sent. The singing pf the "Ode to Friend ship" opened the .meeting; after which the -president, Mrs Tiekner, welcomed visitors and read a\ greetings telegram from Mrs Turnbnll a former president. The time passed; pleasantly with competitions; and items. Mrs T-ickner played a pianoforte solo and a play reading of "Between the Soup and the Savoury" by Mesdames Whiteside; Tick ner and Cristall was greatly appreciated. During the afternoon opportunity was taken to present the points prizes for the.competitions throughout the year. These resulted: Monthly competitions, Mrs Whiteside 1, Mrs Kedgley 2, Mrs Tumbu-11 Best Flower, Mrs Hampton 1* Mrs Rutherford 2, Mrs ■ Turnbull 3. A dainty afternoon tea was served, a feature of which was the at-* tractive birthday cake with its ten. candles.
