A RECORD GATE
£202 FOR SHOW SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE SHOWN The Secretary, Mr L. R. Spring, announced on Saturday evening that the gate from the recent Show totalled the record figure of £202, a 25 per cent increase over last year. In view of the fact that the benzine restrictions must have had a retarding eflect upon the travelling public and also that the present war situation is scarcely conducive to pleasure seeking the above achievement may be regarded as something quite plfenomenal. NOVEL AUCTION SALE PROCEEDS TO RED CROSS CONCLUSION TO SHOW The Winter Show will be memorable this year for the novel coiW eluding feature which on Saturday night took the form of a lively auction sale, conducted on behalf o/' the Red Cross by Mr Reeve Canning Goods of all descriptions were dis posed of, many at fancy prices, as competitors in every section of the Show donated their exhibits for t'ie worthiest cause of the day. Root crops, embracing the mammoth swedes and mangolds, found a ready response, While there wa? quite a keen competition for the re-cord-breaking pumpkins, the largest of which weighed 1981bs.
