HIGHLAND SECTION
HIGH DANCING STANDARD MANY VISITING EXPONENTS A gratifying feature of the Highland Section was the number of competitors coming from a distance indicating that the Whakatane Show as a National Dancing fixture has a growing reputation. The judge, Mr J. H. Sutherland, of Hamilton, expressed his pleasure at the number of young dancers from Who katane itself. The standard, lie con-" sidereil equal to any section he has previously judged in the larger centres, a fact which .augers avcll for the dancing competitions in future. The Piping, Avhicli this year was mainly staged for the encouragement of novice players, drew competitors from the local and the Rotorua Bands, who paced the boards for the first time. Their perforin* ance, in view of the short time they had been playing was quite good. The list of awards was as under: Highland Fling (10 years and under): M. McQuilan 1, B. Flavell 2, P. Rivett 3.
